Hey-type high-speed steel center drills with a plain tip have flats on their end that accept carbide inserts. They can be used on Hey machines for facing a workpiece and creating center holes on it so it can be turned between centers on a lathe. High-speed steel center drills provide good wear resistance in a wide range of machining applications. These center drills have set screw flats for locking the center drills into the tool holder.
