Short-projection pipe and conduit taps have fewer tapered threads at their tip than standard pipe and conduit taps. They don't have to enter deep into the workpiece to produce full threads, making them suitable for tapping shallow holes. These taps have a bottoming chamfer that allows them to create threads close to the bottom of a blind hole. They are made from high-speed steel and provide good wear resistance in general purpose tapping applications in a range of materials.
