Cobalt steel countersinks are harder than high-speed steel countersinks and provide good wear resistance when machining hard materials at high speeds. Also known as machine countersinks, 4-flute countersinks have a long shaft that allows them to be used in lathes, screw machines, and CNC machines. They expand the top of an existing hole in a workpiece to ensure screws install flush with the surface of the workpiece. 4-flute countersinks typically provide more wear resistance than countersinks with fewer flutes.
